A home in a city as breathtakingly beautiful as Anchorage, Alaska deserves the best in design. Tasked with an extensive interior renovation to turn bland 80’s construction into chic traditional farmhouse, Bauer/Clifton Interiors used Pental Surfaces natural stone to give this home an elegant new look. With its natural wood tones, custom cabinetry, natural stone surfaces and pops of modern green, it’s easy to see why this kitchen was the second place Winner of Interior Design Society’s 2014 Designer of the Year Awards for Kitchens 50K & above.
Classic Natural Marble slabs from Pental Surfaces are finished with a luxurious custom ogee edge to create thickness in both the kitchen and pantry countertops. For subtle contrast, Honed Absolute Black Granite was used for darker perimeter countertops. Granite is a powerhouse in an active kitchen with a natural resistance to high heat, scratching and staining. Echoing the surface of the island, small 3×6” marble tile similar to our Natural Stone Tile forms a classic patterned backsplash. A large green and brass hood over a green professional range brings color and heirloom style to the design.
The adjacent pantry adopts a lighter palette with white cabinets and bright globe lights over the island. With an additional sink, dishwasher, ample storage space in floor-to-ceiling cabinets and plenty of prep space, the pantry area extends the functionality of the kitchen out of sight of the main living areas. Subtle details like a mirrored backsplash and a white patterned ceiling tile add glamour and architectural character to a space that is often overlooked.
